In life, it is the simple actions that usually generate the greatest results. Self improvement is no exception. What happens when you use the fair word to your own success within today’s highly competitive and challenging world?
The words of Henry Ford of whether you think you can or whether you think you cannot are always with me. How we think about life, our very thoughts and the words within your thoughts have tremendous impact on how we behave.
One such word is FAIR. How many times have you heard these words or had this thought: That is not fair! For me, I cannot count the number of times, my daughter said this to me as a young child or how many times I heard a fellow co-worker make a similar remark. Due to my own childhood, I learned at a very early age that Life is not fair and get over it.
Imagine wanting to be a ballerina at the age of 7 and then within several years accepting the fact that a sudden growth spurt made it unreasonable to have that expectation. We all experience changes in life that necessitate course corrections to where we want to go in life.
In the U.S., the fair thought has taken almost a stranglehold and its trickle down affect can be heard, read or seen on a daily basis. People forget that the wonder of life never included the word fair. Is it fair that some are born with red hair or others with blond?
When we consistently use the word fair, we begin to set certain expectations that lead to self imposed limitations resulting in personal, professional and even business failure. Our desire for self improvement stops dead in its track because the word fair is in front of us. We stop trying because of all these fair thoughts (remember Henry Ford).
Accept that life is inherently unfair. We are all born differently. What is fair is that we all have the ability to get to where we want to go provided we are willing to do what it takes to get there. What that looks like for you will indeed be different than what that looks like for me. However, bottom line, the choice is yours.
