Social networking websites are giving almost any person an opportunity not only to get in touch with people who have been part of their lives but to those who they may not have met but share similar interests. That is why these sites have been good modes to share any information in the fields of business and medicine, among others. In fact, it has been used to investigate and solve heinous crimes. For example, Eric Manis of Kingsport Police, was suspended pending conclusion of the perceived threats and comments he against participants of Fun Fest in his Myspace profile page.

But then again, there are the brewing concerns with regards to social networking sites. A new trend in the corporate world today is that managers and other firm administrators are turning their attention to profile pages to get information which they will never dare to ask their interviewees. Thus, there are numerous of them who are left jobless because of details which the company may not find fit in their corporate mantra.

There is also the issue of social networking spam which is actually directed to their users. It’s a common knowledge that social networking users can send messages with accompanying links that may be located either within or outside of the network to other social network locations or even outside sites. This is where spammers enter. With the use of the search tools of social network, they will then set their eyes on a particular target market based on demographics. Presenting themselves as real persons, they will start sending messages with links of pornographic and product websites. Of course, there is the worry of privacy, especially of parents of underaged teens. There have been reported cases of sexual assaults, child pornography, and pedophilia raised as the information provided by these children have been used by sexual offenders to lure them until they become their preys.
