Every part of computer hardware needs software called as driver to execute well. And ATI display driver is a type of graphic software that is used to operate the ATI Radeon video cards. An ATI card will not function properly and you'll not be able to view graphical pictures without this software.
Frequently updating your graphic card is always recommended to encounter your computer's best performance. Make sure you uninstall the previous old versions of ATI display driver before installing the new one else it will create havoc leading the system to a puzzled state as it will not be able to classify the old and new updates of display drivers.
Firstly what you need to do is to go to the 'Control Panel' from the 'Start' menu and select 'Add/Remove Programs'. Just in case if you are trying to install the new graphic card when the computer is off then the ATI display driver will be installed after the system is turned on. And you can easily ignore the message 'found new hardware' while installing the new files of the updated driver.
It's quite an essential task to uninstall the old driver files before crafting the newer variant. The system will not operate smoothly without an accurate ATI display driver so for peak performance updating the older driver is recommended.
