If you follow these tips you'll feel more in control of your life and overwhelm will be a thing of the past. You need to avoid overwhelm at all costs. When you feel overwhelmed it's easy to slip into negative thinking patterns. And once you go down that road your negative outlook makes it even harder to manage the challenges and move forward.
Practising positive thinking helps you to focus on your strengths and accomplishments, which leads to increased happiness and motivation. This enables you to spend more time making progress, and less time feeling down and stuck. The following tips will help you to shift into more positive thinking patterns and reduce stress.
Take Good Care of Yourself
It's much easier to have a positive outlook when you're eating well, exercising, and getting enough rest.
Remind Yourself of the Things You Are Thankful For
Challenges don't seem nearly so bad when you are constantly reminding yourself of the things that are going right in your life. Taking just a few minutes a day to stop and appreciate the good things will make a huge difference. Try it and see.
Stop Making Assumptions and Look For The Proof
Don't assume that you know what other people are thinking. People are rarely thinking what you think they are. If you think that your partner's bad mood is due to something you did, or that people are secretly gossiping about you when you turn your back, speak up and ask them. Stop wasting time worrying that you did something wrong unless you have proof that there is something to worry about.
Avoid Using Absolutes
If you're challenging someone beware of using words like always and never. Thinking and speaking in absolutes such as always and never will make the situation seem worse than it is. It also programmes you to believe that certain people are incapable of delivering what they promise.
Stop Negative Thoughts In Their Tracks
As soon as you recognise a negative thought, stop the thought dead and replace it with a positive affirming thought. If you change the way you think your feelings will eventually catch up.
Get Into The Habit Of Giving People Hugs
Hugs are good for you and the people around you. Positive physical contact with friends, loved ones, and even pets, will make you feel better. One research study had a waitress touch some of her customers on the arm as she handed them their bill. She got higher tips from these customers than from the ones she didn't touch.
Socialise More With Positive Uplifting People.
Surround yourself with upbeat, happy people, and their positive energy will affect you in a positive way. Spend less time with negative people and you'll soon notice the difference in your outlook.
Work As A Volunteer Or Find Someone Who Could Do With Some Help
Doing someone else good will help you to feel good. You can volunteer your time, your money, or your resources. The more you give out, the more you will receive in return.
Stop Yourself Thinking About The Same Thing Over and Over.
If you find yourself continually thinking about something interrupt the pattern by forcing yourself to do something completely different. Focusing on negative things is never productive. Excessive worry won't help the situation. Try changing your physical environment - go for a walk, sit outside, call a friend, read a book, or turn on some music. Do what ever it takes to get out of the negative pattern.
If you follow these tips you'll soon feel less stressed and more in control.
