What are the Basics Behind My Bluetooth Cell Phone Headset?

posted in Communications : Telephone Systems

If you have stepped into the modern age and have a Bluetooth cell phone headset but have no idea how it works than I am here to help you out. The concepts and functionality behind a Bluetooth cell phone headset are fairly simple, but if they have never been explained to you than they may seem foreign. A simple universal Bluetooth headset is designed to connect up to a Bluetooth ready device, like your cell phone, to make your life easier.

Bluetooth Cell Phone Headset – A Guide to How It All Works

Any Bluetooth device, including your Bluetooth cell phone headset, uses radio waves to communicate. This has a lot of benefits. Radio waves can pass through walls and other things with ease so that your Bluetooth cell phone headset can communicate with its target without interruption from your pants, a jacket, or even a brief case. Having a direct line of sight between the two devices does help communications but it is not needed. In addition, the components that make this possible are not relatively expensive when compared with out electronics. They do not require a lot of power, and therefore do not generate a lot of heat. What this means is that they can be used in highly sensitive and small electronic devices – i.e. your cell phone and you Bluetooth cell phone headset.

Most Bluetooth devices are capable of communicating with each other within about 1 meter of each other. These are the simplest of devices. The class above this, class two, can communicate within about 10 meters of each other. These are slightly more expensive than the class three components, but most Bluetooth cell phone headset are rated at class two. Above this is class one and these devices can talk out to about 100 meters. Many bases and receiving stations are rated at class one. In addition because of their sensitivity a class one device can talk out to one hundred meters with a class 2 device. There are things that limit this communication range, one being the amount of material between the two devices.

These are some of the basics of the technology behind your Bluetooth cell phone headset. The important thing to know about Bluetooth is that while it is similar to Wi-Fi and uses some similar technologies, it is far cheaper and does not require as much expensive hardware as Wi-Fi. The trade of is that it has a much more limited range, and a much more limited amount of bandwidth. Hopefully this has helped you to understand your Bluetooth cell phone headset a bit more.
