To continue on from Part 2 of the Free Traffic Series, I would like to begin with reviewing the importance of product and information relevance.
Product and information relevance is paramount to your success in online business. Let's say one of your friends recommends a site that sales baby toys, which you happen to be in the market for, and when you get to this site you find exactly what you are looking for. In fact, you really like the site. You start to think that you will buy all your baby toys from this site from now on. Then you start to wonder what all these links lead to that you see plastered all over the site, so you begin to click on them. You get a car sales site, a men's suit site, a monster truck site, and so on and so forth. When you finally leave the site you are saying to your self, "the guy who owns this site is just out to make a buck off of me. He doesn't really care about babies at all."
Whether you actually care about your product or not makes a difference. Relative content makes a difference. See, you have gone from selling a product to not caring about babies in your customers minds. All because of not having relative content. (Naturally, this is an example and not meant to say you don't care about babies - the fact that I have to add that is troubling.)
Word of mouth advertising is the most powerful form of advertising that exists. Believe me, if a customer walks away from your site with a bad taste in their mouths, they will go out of their way to bad mouth your site. If they like your site they will give it an exaggerated and glowing review, most of the time. (There is psychology behind that statement, which is to complicated and in depth for our purposes here, so just believe it and move forward.)
So, you obviously want your customers to give you glowing word of mouth reviews when they talk to people about your site. Word of mouth will get you more free traffic than your site can handle, so how important are relevant information and relevant links? Mega-important!
Now, let's discuss autoresponders. Some people love them and some hate them. Are they necessary? You bet! Why? Because as your email lists starts to grow you will find yourself working on it constantly if you don't have an autoresponder.
I should mention before moving forward that I have discouraged the use of autoresponders in recent articles for this reason, they are impersonal. However, I should also state that I do recommend using autoresponders when your list reaches a point that it becomes difficult for you to efficiently manage your list because of its size. It is from this point that we shall proceed, with the assumption your list is large enough to warrant using an autoresponder.
The only autoresponder I recommend is Aweber. Their service is amazing and they offer a lot of necessary tools at a very reasonable price. You will also find that most of your more popular affiliate marketers use Aweber because it works. It is not my intention to promote Aweber so we will move on.
What autoresponders do is send email to your list. They do it repeatedly and continually until you tell them to stop, or the email recipient opts out. Though I should mention that most marketers do not bombard their potential customers email inbox with offers. Once a week or every 4 days is more than sufficient to get results.
You can set your autoresponder to reply to messages sent by your recipients and various other actions that make dealing with large lists manageable. Though I personally offer my email directly to my customers, in an autoresponder message, with the statement that it may take 48 hours to respond to them due to the volume of email I have received from the offer I released. Most people understand this and wait patiently to hear from me.
I realize we have only briefly touched on autoresponders, but I feel it is necessary for you to learn about them on your own. Though here is a very basic explanation of how they work.
You sign up for an autoresponder.
You enter your email message you want to send to your customer.
You set up the schedule for the autoresponder to deliver the email.
You put a link into your email for your customer to click on which sends them to your email capture page.
Your customer lands on your capture page, where you will have a form or another link for them to receive the message you have for them and to join your list, newsletter, or whatever. This is like asking permission to email them another time, or get added to your list.
Then your autoresponder will send them the information you set up at whatever time intervals you specified without you having to do anything else.
The next thing I want to discuss is sending targeted email to your demographic. Your emails should be tailored to your audience. Wouldn't you feel better about an email if it was something you were interested in versus just another email offer?
Your audience/customers have the same feelings and emotions, wants and desires that you do, with very little variation. You want to be successful, they want to be successful. You want to live comfortably, they want to live comfortably. My point here is to look at the big picture.
Understand your customers needs and wants. You can do this easily by studying human behavior for a few weeks in your demographic. For example, what do single straight women in their 30's want versus single straight women in their 40's? What do balding men in their 30's want versus balding men in their 40's? Take a look at what they are doing and what they are buying. Observe their activities. Work to find out what they are generally interested in and target that interest!! This will result in a lot of free targeted traffic for your site.
Start with the big picture of your target audience and work your way down to the details. Once you have the details, you will be able to market to your demographic easier and they will respond much better. Your sales will go up and your conversion rate will be much, much higher. How does this relate to free traffic? Your site will become popular and your site traffic will increase. Your customers have friends who are like minded, and they will tell them about your site.
As you can now see, there is much more to free traffic than meets the eye. It is work getting the traffic in the first place and even more work to keep it and continue to get more of it.
Try some of the things I have mentioned so far in the Free Traffic Series. See how they work out for you. Put them to the test.
By now, you should realize that I am not just telling you to set up blogs and write articles and traffic will come pouring in. I am telling you the things that will make you successful at getting and keeping traffic flowing to your site.
Part 4 in the Free Traffic Series will be released by the 26th. I have decided to release Part 3 early as I am a little overwhelmed this week with another project I am working on.
