If you're like me, then you are probably trying to do everything that you possibly can to conserve energy and not use your car quite as much. But aren't you entitled to a little rest and relaxation in the form of a vacation? Contrary to what many might believe, to go on a 'vacation,' you don't have to travel the world or book an expensive plane ticket to then stay in an even more expensive hotel. Rather, there are plenty of more affordable options if you choose to keep it close to home.

If anything, more Americans are worried about the high cost of gasoline as well as the fact that they want to put as little wear and tear on their personal vehicle (this way it will last them a long time. That being said, get creative. Think of ways to make a road trip fun. Do you have friends who live in different states? Perhaps you could drive part of the way with one friend to meet up with another friend who lives in a different state. Once you get there, you can leave your car at their place and then take their car to meet the next person and so on and so forth.

Vacations can even mean planning a brief two or three night stay at a local bed and breakfast or taking a trip out to the beach for a long weekend break. You don't necessarily need to reserve two weeks of hard earned vacation time at work in order to enjoy yourself. There are a lot of people nowadays who are enjoying something called 'staycations' whereby they invite their friends and families over for a picnic or for a barbecue/cookout. In cases like those, you can have everyone volunteer to bring over a food item or game. Another idea is to have an adult sleepover. Perhaps more popular with the ladies, you can invite over some of your best friends and have the same kind of fun that you used to when you were a kid- only  now you'll have a grown-up twist to things. For example, maybe instead of staying in and doing each other's hair and nails, you make a reservation at a local day spa. Then, later at night, you can come back and watch a scary movie while you bake or make something tasty to eat. Get creative!

For the guys (and even the gals), vacations can even include planning a camping trip to a local state park. While this may not be for everyone, it is yet another way to think of creative, (slightly less expensive) ways to enjoy you without breaking the bank. Remember, when it comes to vacations, it's not about the distance that you're traveling; rather, it's about the company that you keep.
