Improving Vertical Jump in Volleyball

Volleyball is one of the most popular sports today. Especially in comparison to the more popular sports like basketball and football it was pretty much unheard of, and live events were not even broadcast on television. Having a good vertical leap is more important in volleyball than any other sport. If a player can’t jump high they won’t be able to reach up and block or spike the ball and the game is going to be monopolized as a result.

Vertical jump in volleyball is important because this is what enables players to dive up to spike or block the ball. These are major components in the game and without them players will struggle and lose the game. Fortunately there are some great exercises that are used for this specific reason. Fortunately there are some very effective exercises and training tools that can be used to help improve a player’s vertical jump in volleyball.

One of the best ways to help vertical leap in volleyball is to incorporate plyometrics into your regular workout routine. They can actually work to improve the functions of the nervous system. Athletes must have a proper strength base before starting with these exercises because they would just be too intense otherwise. Plyometrics can be followed by weightlifting which is also important to help improve vertical jump in volleyball.

Doing squats while holding dumbbells is a great way of building muscle in the legs. Basic squats build strength and power in the legs but with a weight you’re making it even more of a challenge for yourself. Begin your set of squats by starting with your feet shoulder-width apart and then slowly start to squat towards the floor as though you were going to sit on a chair. Then holding the dumbbell with weight you start to squat down towards the floor or a chair whatever you prefer, and hold your position when your legs are parallel to the ground.

It’s important to hold your position once you are squatting, for at least a count of ten seconds, and you should start to feel a slight burn in your leg muscles. For example there are the Strength shoes which are a training tool used to aide even professional athletes. After repetitively jumping up and down you’ll start to gain muscle in your legs and learn how to get the most air. Volleyball players will see a marked improvement in their game once they improve their vertical leap in volleyball.
