Volleyball Terms Used in the Game

posted in Recreation and Sports : Volleyball

Volleyball is one of the most popular sports in the world. It requires concentration, strength and commitment. If you want to get started in volleyball, there are a few terms that you should learn. If you aren’t sure about the volleyball teams then you can’t communicate properly with other players on your team and will lose games.

One of the most important volleyball terms is assist, which refers to the action of one player passing, setting or digging the ball to a teammate who then scores a point. This is the term used to describe the action of one player maneuvering the ball to a teammate who then scores a point. This way it’s not only the player scoring the point that gets recognition but also the player who helped set up the winning goal. Floater is a term used to describe served balls which do not spin.

Floaters can be helpful when used in a game because they can confuse the other team and have them unsure of where the ball is actually going to land. Pepper refers to a warm-up drill which is often used before volleyball games, to get pairs of players to pass, set and hit the ball back and forth to get prepared for the game and loosen and limber their muscles. Another of the most popular volleyball terms is kong which refers to a one-handed block of the ball. Kong is a term that was taken from the King Kong movie and which is now a very popular move in the game of volleyball.

Yellow card is a term that refers to a warning given for misconduct of any player. This is similar to the yellow flag that is used in football, and is used to give a warning to the team. The term trap set is used when there is a very tight set to the net and the ball is so low that the other team is usually not able to get the ball back over the net. These are just a few of the many different volleyball terms that are used in today’s games.

It’s essential to learn volleyball terms before getting started in a game. Then you can begin actually playing the game and start to build on your skills. Doing exercises like squats and lunges to increase your vertical jump would also be helpful. With practice you can learn to jump higher and help your team win the game.
