Different Types of Orchids in an Orchid Nursery

When you are in the market to buy orchids you should always go to an orchid nursery. At the orchid nursery you will find a variety of colors and species of orchids to choose from. The orchid nursery will also tell you how to care for the orchids that you choose.

Cattleya Orchids

One species of orchid you will find in an orchid nursery is the Cattleya orchid. This is a beautiful pink orchid that requires lots of light, but not a high temperature. If the orchid gets too hot, the leaves will burn and turn yellow and brown. Always use orchid bark when potting these floral plants and make sure the pot provides adequate drainage for the roots. These orchid plants must be watered every three to five days and it is best to water them in the early morning hours with plenty of water. However, do not forget the fertilizer. Fertilizing the orchids every time they are watered is recommended to prolong the life of the plant.

Cymbidium Orchid

The cymbidium orchid is another type of orchid you will find in an orchid nursery. The orange colored orchids also need a lot of light to flourish, but it is good to have a little shade for these picky plants because they do not like to get too hot. Fertilizing these plants with fir bark is the best way to get optimum results and the pots should not be too big or the plants will be overwhelmed. The orchid nursery will carry the perfect size pots for these beautiful plants. The cymbidium orchid likes a lot of water, but not too much or it will drown. A high nitrogen fertilizer should be used on this plant and every few months osmocote granules should be added to the potted plant mixture.

Oncidium Orchid

The oncidium orchid is a beautiful multicolored flower plant that also requires plenty of light and a relative amount of humidity as well. Fir bark is also used with these orchids and they need to be repotted every two to three years. This plant also requires a lot of water and growmore fertilizer should be used year round.

These are just a few of the many species of orchids that can be found in an orchid nursery. Be sure to always check the care instructions on your orchid to be sure your yard has the best sunlight for your plant. The orchid nursery should also be available to answer any questions you might have about your orchid plants.
