Although it is laudable to use any equipment you have for as long as possible to save on wastes and money, one of the few exceptions is with power tool repair. And if the cost of repairing the power tool is more than what the power tool is worth, then junk it and buy a new one.

If you do go this route, you need to be sure that you have instructions for your power tool. This is one reason why you should always keep the original instructions that your power tools come with. If you don't have the original instructions, check online to see if you can find a copy of the instructions. Check with the website of the manufacturer. Sometimes they keep an archive of instructions.
Read The Fine Print
Depending on the power tool, you might have a warranty for power tool repair from the manufacturer. Again, you need to check all the paperwork that the power tool came with. Those instructions will tell you whether you have to send the tool off in the mail to the manufacturer for power tool repair, or if you can return he tool to where you bought it and they will ship it out for you.
Be sure also to read and follow all of the safety precautions the manufacturer recommends about power tool repair. For example, be sure the power tool is turned off when you are fiddling about with it. Although that might sound like a no-brainer, you'll be surprised at how many people don't follow that.
Unless you know of an electronics repair store that will willingly take on power tool repair, you're going to have a hard time finding anyone who specializes in power tool repair.
