Brief History
Actually, in 1924, Skill power tools were known as the Michel Electric Handsaw Company. Not as catchy a name, is it? Michel Electric Handsaw Company didn't think so, either, and changed to the name Skil. Originally only available in America, Skil/Skill power tools went international in 1960.
The most famous Skil/ Skill power tools still in use is No.77 Skilsaw, also called the Model E Circular, which first came out in 1928. It was one of the first portable electric power saws ever made and quickly became the electric saw of choice among builders, handymen and contractors.
The electric saw - as well as some other popular Sil/Skill power tools - was based on a need for a better sugar cane harvesting tool. Originally, you just used a machete to harvest the sugar cane. The Skil saw was originally a motorized machete with a motorized 2" saw mounted on a machete handle.
