Replacement Window Systems Make Remodeling Easier

Over the years, many homeowners decide to update the appearance of their windows. Whether it is due to the age of the windows that have developed frame problems and allows air and water to pass through the cracks. Instead of trying to replace the sash or they are just tired of fighting with hard to open windows, replacement window systems can make the replacement project so much easier.

For the most part, replacement window systems consist of a window without the house around it and can be installed in short order by someone with little experience. Although having a knowledgeable installer put them in makes the job go so much faster, it is possible that the homeowner can do the job on their own. The most important part of replacing replacement window systems is making sure you have the right size replacement unit and that the opening is perfectly square.

To get an accurate measurement you will have to remove the interior trim and measure the existing window sitting inside the frame. Depending on the size of the replacement window systems being installed, you will need to take several measurements. Draw an outline of the window and measure height and width at each corner, resulting in a minimum of four measurements, two for height and two for width. If the opening is over six-feet wide, you will also want to measure the middle. The replacement window systems will construct the window based on the smallest measure on each side.

Keeping Replacement Square For Ease Of Use

When installing replacement window systems, it is paramount the frame remains square. If it is off, even by a fraction of an inch the sash will not glide in the frame, either up and down or sideways. When you buy replacement window systems they typically have corner pieces that keep the frame square and they need to remain in place during installation.

Once the window is in the hole, use a level on the top to insure it is straight and tack the frame into the wood around the opening. You can then verify the vertical level with the same tool, and tack it lightly into place. Once you have double checked the horizontal and vertical level of the replacement window systems, the frame can then be permanently fastened into place. When it comes to installing replacement window systems there is no such thing as a window being too level, so check it often as it is easier to make minor changes before the interior trim is back in place.
