Excess Sweating in Teenage Girls: A Common Problem

Everyone sweats, but there is a point at which it becomes too much, and today millions of people around the world suffer from a condition known as excessive sweating. Also known as hyperhidrosis, excess sweating is a condition that can be more than just inconvenient, but downright embarrassing.

Excess Sweating in Teenage Girls

Excess sweating in teenage girls is a particularly common condition, and there are reasons for this. When a girl is in her adolescent years her body is raging full of hormones, and it is these hormones that play a major role in the amount of sweat their body excretes.

It is important, before any treatment can be decided upon, to determine the cause of the excess sweating in teenage girls. Hormones are most often the cause but there may be other underlying causes at play and if so it is important these be determined.

If an underlying cause for the excess sweating can be identified, then it should be treated, as this is often much easier than treating the hyperhidrosis condition.

Topical Solutions

When it comes to actual treatments for excess sweating in teenage girls, topical solutions are most commonly used. Preparations containing aluminum chloride and tanning agents for one have been found to be effective at treating patients with hyperhidrosis, even teenage patients.

The topical solutions should be applied to dry skin and it is best to apply at bedtime so that the product can soak into the skin and offer the best possible results.

Oral Treatments

There are also many oral treatments available for excess sweating in teenage girls. These are taken orally and are usually in tablet form. Diazepam, anticholinergics, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and calcium channel blockers are all commonly used to treat this condition, and you may want to inquire to your doctor about these if you are interested.

There are other options for treatment as well but there are definitely less options for teenagers with hyperhidrosis than adults because their bodies are not able to handle some of the stronger treatments.

Hyperhidrosis can be a very difficult condition to deal with, especially if you are just a teenager. You may feel uncomfortable and it can end up having a seriously negatively effect on their self confidence and self esteem.

It is important for anyone suffering from this condition to keep their head up and stay positive, and remember that there are things they can do to deal with their sweating problem.
