What Causes Holiday Stress?

Stress is a part of everyday life that people must learn to deal with to be able to go on with life without any hang ups mentally and physically. Holiday stress is one of the many kinds of stress that affects people. The irony of this is that the holidays are supposed to be times of fun and relaxation but many holiday makers are severely affected by stress during these times.

Financial Distress

There are many reasons why holiday stress affects holiday makers. The primary reason for holiday stress is the finances of the people who wish to take a holiday. Just because it is the holidays do not mean that everybody has the means to go on vacation and take a break. The pressure of going out to have a holiday can be stressful enough if you do not have the money to do so.

Running out of money during the holidays can also be part of holiday stress. Some people have a difficult time making their money fit and often overspend. For others, holiday stress can begin with saving money for the holidays. The fact that you have a goal to go on holiday and you are tightening your belt, metaphorically, to save money can be stressful.

Traveling During The Holidays

Another reason for holiday stress is the travel. If you plan your holiday in a place that takes some time to reach, you must brace yourself for the stress of traveling. If you have small children with you, you can expect to have a certain level of stress while traveling. Children will need to have some form of entertainment if your trip is quite long.

In most holidays, there are also long lines in airport terminals and train terminals. These can be stressful also. The weather changing for the worse can also contribute to holiday stress especially if you have already made reservations which you will need to break. Some holiday stress factors can pile up on one another to create a really stressful situation.

Indulging Too Much

Eating, drinking and spending too much can also be factors that contribute to holiday stress. Eating and drinking too much can cause gastrointestinal conditions that can make your holiday stressful especially if you are in a foreign place. Medical emergencies can be really stressful.

Holiday stress can be managed well with enough experience and foresight. There might always be a degree of stress while on holidays and we must be able to cope with it by having a plan of action or having patience.
