Fish Filters
Every one loves the idea of lots of colorful fish swimming peacefully around in fish tanks. We see lots of interesting plastic plants, fish ornamental figure and bubbles in our tanks along with the fish. Now these bubbles are part of the fish tank filters. There are lots of different fish tank filters that you can buy.
The type of fish tank filter that you choose will be based on how you want to clean out your fish tank. Generally you will need to clean your fish tank water once in about 2 weeks. The filter will have cleaned half of your work for you so you will not have much work to accomplish.
The first stage of your cleaning operation is where the tank water is mechanically filtered. In this process the fish tank debris and waste matter is filtered by a screen, sponge, or floss types of material.
In the secondary process your fish filters will chemically remove various molecules like ammonia. This will be taken care of by carbon and zeolite materials. The final stage of your fish tank cleansing is a biological treatment. This is the most important part of filtration.
Within these final fish filters you will find good bacteria types that are used to eat the fish waste and also any degraded plant matter. Without these impurities your fish tank water will be in excellent condition and your fish are healthy.
There are different types of fish filters that you can use in your fish tank. These include the usual aquarium filter. This is the box or corner fish filters. These boxes are small plastic containers that hold the filter material. These materials are floss and carbon, which is then connected to an air pump.
The next type of fish filters that you can buy are the under gravel filters or UGF. These fish filters are made to fit in the bottom of your fish tank. There is an inch or two of gravel that is place on top of these filters. These under gravel filters are connected to an air pump or a power head. You should be careful that you never just turn off an under gravel filter.
You can also use canister filters which are made to hang on the fish tank sides. These fish filters have their own internal pump. There is a sealed container that traps various waste materials that are in the water inside of the filter.
