These antique perfume bottles come in many shapes and colors. They can also be found in different types of container material. This trend of storing our perfumes in bottles began a long time ago. There have been many cultures that have used perfumes in one form or another. To keep these perfumes still smelling wonderful and also as a place to store the perfumes different containers were tried.
However alabaster and ceramic perfume bottles that were created by the Egyptians soon gave way to the elegance that Roman and Greek perfume makers created especially to store their precious perfumes. These antique perfume bottles were decorated with geometric shapes. Sometimes these bottles had a small fresco like paintings adorning the perfume bottle.
About 1500 BC glass perfume bottles began to appear in the Greek and Roman societies. These antique perfume bottles were used as a status symbol of the wealthy and noble classes. As time passed and the craftsmen of these two societies became more advanced the perfume bottle creation changed. The bottles of these times were then made to mimic nature.
When glass perfume bottles began to be made with blown glass techniques the style of these antique perfume bottles changed yet again. Now colored glass was introduced into the glass perfume bottles. The colors were rich yet they were still sophisticated enough to be considered as status symbols.
At the height of this style new designs from China changed the way antique perfume bottles were presented to the world. These charming little containers were made from porcelain. For a time people would buy their perfume in plain containers and transfer the precious liquid into more decorative ones once they arrived home.
This trend of buying separate elegant containers for perfumes continued until well into our modern era. As perfume makers began to make more of their creations they needed perfume bottles that would appeal to their customers. These perfume houses invited craftsmen who were skilled in the art of decorative glass making to design beautiful perfume bottles that could hold their perfumes.
From this point antique perfume bottles began to have embellishments and designs that gave the perfume bottle trade an air of fantasy and allure. The antique perfume bottles that were once used by wealthy nobles and then discarded are now considered as collectors items.
Even today our perfume bottles are designed upon the very patterns that were once used throughout the ancient times. Many times today you can see recreations of some of the more gorgeous antique perfume bottles being used by perfume lovers.
