Is Acne Rosacea Really Related to Acne?
Acne rosacea is a condition of the face that affects the eyes and nose. Rosacea as it is also called has some symptoms that are highly similar to acne, which is why it is often called acne rosacea. In actuality, it has nothing to do with acne and does not have any connection whatsoever to acne.
Symptoms of Acne Rosacea
The condition manifests itself on the middle third of the individual's face. The condition causes the individual's part of the face to be continuously ruddy. The reason why the condition is often call acne rosacea is because of the appearance of pimples in the affected area that look highly similar to acne. The blushing appearance that is consistent to acne roasacea is due to the visibility of fine blood vessels that have enlarged because of the condition.
Acne rosacea is not like acne where it affects teenagers who are experiencing puberty. It usually occurs to people around 30 to 60 years of age with quite fair skin. Unlike acne, acne rosacea does not present whiteheads and blackheads. The skin condition usually manifests itself in women but appears more severely in men.
Initially, the condition comes and goes. After frequent triggering of the blushes and ruddiness, the blood vessels remain enlarged and the reddish hue of the forehead, nose and upper cheeks remain. Acne rosacea lasts for several years and may worsen if the individual does not seek treatment. The nose usually becomes bulbous and the cheeks may grow puffy. The individual's eyes will also be affected by the condition which can turn out to impair vision for those with advanced cases.
Causes of Acne Rosacea
Researchers have not discovered the main cause of the skin condition but have concluded that it occurs mainly on the areas of the face where blushes usually manifest. Acne rosacea is also more likely to occur to people who blush readily. So it is presumed that stress which can cause people to blush is one of the causes of this skin condition. The condition worsens or flares up when there is a sudden change in weather and when the individual is exposed to long periods under the sun.
Immediate treatment is really necessary for those who experience acne rosacea. This can prevent any complication and although the condition may not be reversed, it can be controlled and managed with medication.
