Packing for the Trip

When planning out your travel to Alaska, do not forget to organize the things that you want to bring for the trip. Traveling light is very important, especially if you are planning to move around a lot during your visit in Alaska. Bring only the amount of clothes and supplies that you will use during your trip so that you will not end up lugging a lot of suitcases around the airport and train stations. If you possibly can, bring only one suitcase or backpack. You really do not need a lot of dressy clothing when you travel to Alaska, since the dress code for this area is mostly informal. A few pieces of comfortable clothes will do just fine. Besides, you can always pick up a few new pieces of clothes during your travel to Alaska.

Keeping all of your things in one place will make it easier for you to move around. However, if you do decide to keep all of your supplies in one bag or suitcase, make sure that you keep all your cosmetic items and your toiletries inside a waterproof container to prevent accidental spilling of liquid onto your clothes. Closing the cap of your lotion or shampoo bottle is usually not sufficient, because liquid can leak out so be very careful. You don't really want to end up with a suitcase full of wet and soggy clothes during your trip.

If you plan to go into the wilderness during your travel to Alaska, or camp outdoors at some of the parks, do not forget to bring some insect repellant. Like much of the wilderness throughout the United States, the wilderness of Alaska is filled with insects like mosquitoes. Mosquitoes can be very irritating so you need to keep them off your skin with the use of some good insect repellants.
