Creativity and Imagination: Bird House Layouts
The primary purpose of a bird house is to provide shelter for birds. Once this fundamental goal is reached, everything else is a bonus. Therefore, bird houses can look like absolutely anything, as long as there are four walls and a roof, an entrance and preferably a perch of some kind.
This open realm of possibilities lets many bird watchers, woodworkers and artists exercise their creativity and expand their imaginations. With bird house layouts, any kind of bird house can be made, usually with ease. From the simplest, four-walled house to the most complicated mansion, birds can get the same variety as their human counterparts, all the while receiving protection from the elements, predators and everyday life. And the craftsman will feel rather accomplished as well.
Many bird watchers are not carpenters, but making a bird house is not that hard. There are bird house layouts designed specifically for beginners. These are usually simpler houses that can be crafted from pre-cut wood or other materials-sometimes the materials are even included with the plans.
The bird watcher can then paint his or her bird house to his or her specifics-whether to match his or her own home, or to create a replica gingerbread house with exciting trim and vibrant colors. Other simple bird house layouts are perfect projects for beginner woodworkers, especially in a classroom setting. Or they can even be used during craft time at summer camp for kids of all ages-even if they do not physically put the bird house together, children can paint the perfect present for mom and dad.
The Next Level
However, some of the most exciting bird houses are made from custom bird house layouts. Bird watchers and carpenters can truly go to the limit by designing their own plans. They can design a bird house shaped like a spaceship, a submarine or even a cat.
Traditional bird houses can be expanded into multi-tiered, multi-layered creations with multiple entrances, exits, perches and even built-in feeders. These bird house layouts are drawn by hand, either by the craftsman his or her self, or by an artist taking direction.
Once the initial design is decided on, it is time to also decide which paints will be used, and the exact materials that will be needed. The bird house layouts will often include these other steps to make the entire process easier-there is nothing worse than designing a fantasy bird house but realizing the fantasy materials are just that: fantasy.
