Online college courses have a tremendous benefit that go far beyond the flexibility that they offer. To a great extent, the ability to take difficult course material in the form of online college courses can reduce the stress level that many liberal arts core courses can cause. Now, this does not mean that liberal arts core courses are meant to stifle a person's education. What this notion of "stress" refers to is that when a person's skill level are in a specific area such as engineering and the person is required to take a course in western literature, the person may end up struggling in the western literature course. One way of making the course less stressful would be to pursue the completion of this requirement through the flexibility of online college courses.
The Positives of Liberal Arts Core Courses - Online or Traditional
To a great extent, much of the criticism heaped on core courses is unwarranted. However, much of the criticism derives from the colleges providing a lack of explanation regarding why these courses are important. As such, much confusion derives and for many, liberal arts core courses become somewhat of a burden in terms of completing a degree. Now, this is not because there is no value in liberal courses because there is, in fact, tremendous value to be found in these programs. To a great extent, liberal arts core courses can tremendously improve critical thinking skills as well as provide a person with the knowledge that he or she has solid skills in an area that the person not have previously known he possessed. For example, a person may never had written a work of fiction in his or her life and then after taking a creative writing course the person may discover incredible latent talent. Who knows? Perhaps this person will end up with two successful careers which include the primary career that the person sought through the course of study of their major and then a secondary career (and, of course, an income as well) from a writing career that spun out of those liberal arts online college courses.
Of course, there will be those that will perpetually deride the benefits of core liberal arts online college courses and that is fine. After all, it is impossible to please everyone and some people will never recognize the value of core liberal arts online college courses, but there are those who do and it is the latter who will be able to functionalize that they learn and make the most of it.
