Locating Emergency First Aid
If you have children, you should be aware that many childhood injuries occur because of participation in youth sports. Although children are taught the safety rules, proper gear, and other types of regulations, there will be a time at any type of sporting event for children where emergency first aid will be needed. Whether it is a small cut or a broken bone, emergency medical first aid should always be on hand at a sporting event. Most of the time, the coach or sponsors of the game will take care of this. As a parent, you need to know where the emergency first aid is located just in case there is an instant where no other supervising adult can be found.
Knowing where the emergency first aid kits are a sporting event will help the injured as well as those who are assisting the injured. If you are located within a school, there should be emergency first aid located with the coaches and sometimes emergency first aid is also located in locker rooms or attached to walls in or around the gym area.
If you are attending a sporting event in an outdoor setting, know if the coaches and other parents are equipped with emergency first aid. If they are not, it might be wise to share in the responsibility to take along your own emergency first aid.
If an emergency happens, and the emergency first aid is located, let the person with the most experience take care of the injured. If there is no one that is more qualified than the next person, you will want the person who is the most calm to handle the child. This way, they can also calm down the child so that they are not scared or worried about what has happened. Remember also to stay away when there is blood present in order to prevent yourself from contracting any type of disease from blood. If you do need to come in contact with it, remember to wear the proper protection in order to keep both of you safe.
