Using Arnica as Homeopathic Gout Remedy

Homeopathy is a holistic approach in the treatment of different kinds of illnesses, including gout and all the other forms of arthritis. Homeopathic remedies are administered in subtle dosages but they are known to be very effective. Gout patients who are considering homeopathy to treat gout should not worry that they would have to give up conventional medicine because homeopathic remedies can be used alongside regular gout treatment.

One of the staples of homeopathic remedies is Arnica (Arnica Montana), an herb used to relieve mental and emotional stresses, thereby, putting the body in a state of calm and balance and making further healing possible. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, found that Arnica had vast healing powers and that it is helpful in a wide range of conditions from forgetfulness to gout to impotence.

Arnica has powerful anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it very effective in treating gout since this disease is characterized by joint inflammation. Arnica became popular in folk medicine in Europe as an external muscle pain remedy and also, for some time, an internal gout remedy. However, Arnica can be highly toxic, which is why today its internal usage is restricted to homeopathy. Arnica is also known as Leopard's Bane, Mountain Daisy or Mountain Tobacco.

As a homeopathic remedy for gout, Arnica can be used to relieve patients from the discomfort and pain of this disease. Usually, Arnica is utilized to ease injury-related symptoms of discomfort and pain but it also very helpful in easing pain associated with gout. A homeopathist will use Arnica as a gout remedy if the patient finds it difficult to walk because of the pain in the gouty joint or if the pain felt is similar to a sore or bruise-associated pain. The person may also fear physical contact to the affected area because it causes severe and sharp pain. If the patient displays any of these symptoms, Arnica may be used immediately as a homeopathic treatment of gout symptoms.

To prepare Arnica as a homeopathic remedy, the ho

meopathist may use the herb's flowers, leaves, stems and roots. Usually, the herb is crushed and then pounded to a pulp, after which it is gently soaked in alcohol. Once the herb is thoroughly diluted, it will lose its toxicity and the resulting solution is then ready to be used as homeopathic remedy. Arnica can be taken orally or applied externally for local pain relief during gout attacks.
