Hybrid Car Sales Surges To A New High
As gas prices spikes up again, this time around $3 a litre, people are now convinced more than ever that the future is in hybrid cars. No longer are they the passive spectators; people are starting to formulate plans to sell their gas-guzzlers and get hybrid cars. And it is evident, says Virginia resident Cora Seballos, who carpools daily to the District from Springfield, in a reaction to the increasing traffic in carpool/hybrid car lanes. "There is one hybrid car for every two conventional car, and it creates traffic". It is evident; hybrid car sales are still surging to newer heights.
During the height of the SUV craze, where most households are pursuing for their very own SUVs, United States by then are consuming an approximate 8.5 million barrels a day to power just these vehicles. Not a pretty figure considering the deteriorated relations of US to the Middle East. That's how the introduction of hybrid cars became the best prospect in fuel economy, more than the poor excuse to drill holes in Alaska for oil. Then the subsequent painful spikes in fuel prices has left consumers really no other option but to look on hybrid cars as way out to the oil prices dilemma.
Although still a very new technology, hybrid cars are confirming results on the road. Even with the overblown EPA ratings, hybrid cars like the Honda Insight, Toyota Prius and Ford Escape do save an amount of fuel. A good driver can save as much as 40 mpg navigating on stop and go traffic whereas a conventional gasoline vehicle gives around 30 mpg. On really arbitrary accounts there have been news that it could reach as extraordinary as 100 mpg.
With the current trend of hybrid cars, the better awareness for the environmental conditions, and the confirmed results, these all in all owed hybrid car sales doubling for every year that passes. Hybrid car sales still represent less than 1 percent of the several million vehicles sold in the US, let alone the rest of the world, but judging it with rate of sales growth, hybrid car sales overtakes even the best selling Honda CRV. And the hybrid car sales is speculated to rise even further by the end of 2007, as newer designs, especially hybrid SUVs are being introduced to the market. And due to the economy of market, with each hybrid car sold, it allows car manufacturers to slash the price of the next crop of hybrids. So you will see that today's hybrid cars are remarkably priced lower than last year's release.
