Apple PowerBook G3 Bronze Keyboard and PowerBook Series

A professional line by Apple Inc. of laptop Macintosh computers, PowerBook G3 is a distinctive model and series of portable devices. It is the first among all laptops to use PowerPC G3 microprocessors. The first model is known as PowerBook G3 with a code name Kanga.

Dubbed as the fastest laptop available based on advertisement, Kanga was based on it predecessor, the PowerBook 3400. Macintosh PowerBook G3 was also known as PowerBook 3500 though the recognition was unofficial. Some of its technical specifications are similar with PowerBook 3400 particularly the mother board and the casing. However, it has more improvised and faster graphics controller than 3400.

Kanga also has the distinction of being the fastest depreciating laptop from Apple. Its stay on the market lasted for less than five months.

It has been succeeded in the market by the PowerBook G3 Series starting off with Wallstreet Series 1 which was launched on the market on March 1998. The Wallstreet Series 1 also dubbed as Mainstreet and Wallstreet has a rounder and lighter redesigned case. However, it still used Old World ROM Mac.

The design of Wallstreet was updated in the models of Wallstreet Series II. Launched on August 1998, the Wallstreet Series II, also known as PDQ of PowerBook G3, contained docking bays for each side. The bay on the left could accommodate diskette drive, a battery and add-on hard drives. The larger bay on the right could accommodate DVD-ROM or CD-ROM drive and other drives that could be found on the left bay.

The first generation of New World ROM PowerBook, Apple PowerBook G3 Bronze Keyboard has thinner and lighter designs that its predecessors. Launched on May 1999, the series model from Apple had a battery life longer than the first generations of PowerBook series.

Also known as Lombard, Apple PowerBook G3 Bronze Keyboard has been known for its bronze-tinted plastic casings of its keyboard. It has an integrated ATA optical drives a feature that first found in Wallstreet PowerBook.

Apple PowerBook G3 Bronze Keyboard is one of the PowerBooks that have been featured in the famous HBO sex comedy show Sex and the City. Carrie Bradshaw, the character played by Sarah Jessica Parker, identified the Apple laptop as her 98 laptop.

Aside from Apple PowerBook G3 Bronze Keyboard, it has been known that Pismo was also used in the show. Pismo is the codename of PowerBook G3 FireWire introduced on 2000.

Apple PowerBook G3 Bronze Keyboard including other models in PowerBook G3 series was succeeded PowerBook G4 line in which the first line was introduced in 2001.
