Sprinklers seem like a simple enough irrigation choice for a lawn. However, simply installing a sprinkler system is not enough. A rotor head on the other hand sprays less water and has the advantage of dispersing water in a more uniformed pattern. Depending on the type of lawn you have it may be more worth it for you to use this type of lawn sprinkler heads even though spray heads can water a lawn very quickly.
Lawn Type
If your lawn is largely even with no slopes then using spray heads is the best option. Spray heads will cover the area quickly and you will find that the high application rater, as spray heads are famous for, will do well for you.
If you find yourself in a situation where you have sloping surfaces and still decide to use the spray heads, then you will have to program the sprinkler system to release water in shorter intervals. This will reduce wastage and result in better irrigation.
A lawn that slopes a lot or has many small areas that slope is best maintained with rotor heads. Rotor heads are also a better option for bigger lawns. This is due to their less erratic spray patterns and low application rate. Take into consideration your lawn type and decide which lawn sprinkler heads will help you to maintain your lawn better.
