Ever Think Of Hand Painting Furniture?

When I started remodeling my kitchen last year I wanted to try and save the cupboards and cabinets we have because I liked them and budget prevented us from getting new ones. But the old ones looked really dirty and old and we just didn't know what to do. Then I thought about getting all new hardware and then painting the cupboards. Painting them? Why not? So we set about painting our old finished cupboards and before you knew it we had practically new looking cupboards! It was amazing what coat of primer and a few coats of paint can do. Then I started to look around and gave some thought to hand painting furniture.

There are two ways you can approach hand painting furniture. You can either paint the piece all one color or you can get creative and paint designs and things on them. When we first started hand painting furniture we just took old rocking chairs, gave them a coat of paint and a new seat, and gave them away as gifts. The reaction was amazing and all we did was take a rocking chair no one wanted and put a coat of paint on it. Actually, two coats of paint. So we decided that hand painting furniture was not only a lot of fun but a practical way to make your old furniture look new again and even a more practical way to turn boring old furniture into wonderful gifts.

All Kinds Of Funriture

Then we started branching out into tables and other pieces of furniture and now we do all sorts of hand painting furniture all over the place. I would not recommend it for everything and every piece you have as some pieces would either not benefit from it or if you try and paint stars on your wife's antique dining room table then you will be sleeping on the couch. Trust me. So you should probably keep the hand painting furniture activities just to the furniture you want to dress up or the furniture you want to bring back to life. It is amazing the transformation that hand painting furniture can give to something like a drab coffee table or a boring telephone stand. Dress it up a little or paint it to match your room. Whatever you want because it is all up to you.

Of course the main thing to remember about hand painting furniture is to make sure the furniture is clean and dry before you start painting. You will probably need a coat or two of primer for the main paint to stick. I recommend latex because a latex paint creates a single protective coat around the furniture that is durable and easy to clean.
