The Danger of Scuba Diving

Although scuba diving is one of the most popular and enjoyable sports in the world, there is also a certain danger of scuba diving that anyone who is interested in partaking in the sport should be aware of.

When it comes to the issue of the danger of scuba diving, many people mistakenly think that the biggest worry scuba divers have is sharks and other large fish in the water. This is actually not a concern of most scuba divers, especially since sharks and large fish account for almost none of the 100 scuba deaths that occur each year.

There are other dangers that should be considered here, such as those relating to ear problems and sinus problems. Because there is such a dramatic pressure change that takes place while you are scuba diving and going further under the water, there are a few conditions that one may suffer with, one of the most common which is known as the bends, and which is a decompression sickness that has effects that can range from discomfort and vomiting to paralysis and even death.

This is obviously then one of the most significant issues in the danger of scuba diving and there are also many other related danger of scuba diving issues that should be taken into consideration here.

Prevention

Although there is no surefire way of avoiding the danger of scuba diving, there are absolutely things that you can do to prevent yourself from harm as much as possible. This includes gently equalizing your ears and mask as you descend into the water, never holding your breath while ascending, always diving with a buddy, and never drinking alcohol before a dive.

You should always check with your doctor or at least some sort of medical professional if you are presently on any form of medication and plan on going scuba diving, and if you ever do not feel well during or after a dive you should go to the nearest emergency room and get yourself checked out.

Although there is definitely a certain danger of scuba diving, you should certainly not let this defer you from enjoying the sport. Scuba diving is an incredibly and wonderfully enjoyable sport that you can partake in and offers experiences unlike any other. Just make sure that you are aware of all the possible dangers and that you take every step to ensure your safety.
