Packing

What you take will depend largely on what time of the year you are going. How much you take will depend on how long you're going to stay.

Las Vegas travel is easiest for seniors who take some comfortable walking shoes, small binoculars, a digital camera, swimsuit, laptop computer, fanny pack, sun screen, and all their medications.

When To Go

The very best travel deals in Las Vegas for seniors are offered mid-week and in the off-season. June, July, and August is considered the off season because it can be blistering hot. Other great deals are available in the Christmas and Thanksgiving Holidays.

Every casino goes all out with their holiday decorations. Millions of dollars are spent on these gorgeous trees and ornaments. The best part for seniors traveling to Las Vegas is that they are free to see.

Las Vegas travel expenses for seniors increase sharply in price on New Year's Eve.

Where To Stay On The Strip - South To North

Mandalay Bay: The water park with its waterfalls, slides, and white sands is year after year voted number one. The shark show takes you underneath and very close to "the killers of the sea." This show is not for the faint of heart

Luxor: This Egyptian themed black pyramid, with its enormous beam of light shooting out of the top, is a must-see sight, both from the inside and out.

Excalibur: Here you can eat your dinner with your hands while sitting with all the knights of the round table. All the time, you are right on top, looking down into a ring, watching knights in body armor joust on horseback

There is a free monorail that runs right in front of these hotels.

New York New York: From the outside, with all its skyscrapers, it looks like downtown New York. A huge roller coaster runs between the skyscrapers. This hotel is also home to The ESPN Zone.

From this point it's a long walk up to Ceasar's on the west side of the strip. I would recommend crossing over to the MGM and then taking the monorail north

Tropicana: This is the oldest casino now operating in Las Vegas. Enter from the top after you have crossed over the pedestrian bridge. A free pull on a giant slot machine awaits you. Take the escalator down and there is usually a free show going on in the middle of the casino.

MGM: Watch majestic lions roam massive boulders up close. This hotel has a great location. This is our favorite because the Las Vegas Monorail originates here and runs as far north as the Sahara. For seniors traveling in Las Vegas, the monorail system is inexpensive, clean, and safe.

The Hilton: Step right off the monorail, take the escalator down, and enter the Starship Enterprise. The Star Trek show is amazing and well worth the money.

Bellagio: This hotel offers another freebie for the senior traveler visiting Las Vegas: The Fountains of Bellagio. There is an hourly light show, with music, in the middle of a lake, with huge fountains gushing water to various tunes.

There are so many things to do in Las Vegas. Take advantage of the Las Vegas Monorail. Ride it out to the Sahara, and take a cab to old downtown. Go at night to see the Fremont Street light experience.
