Pharmaceutical vs. Herbal Acne Treatment
Acne is definitely a serious condition to have to deal with and this is why there are a multitude of treatments on the market that profess to provide a cure. Clearly, some are better than others and one treatment that is quickly emerging in popularity is the herbal acne treatment.
Some may feel that an herbal acne treatment falls into the category of 'quack' medicine because it is not a pharmaceutical product. However, if one feels pharmaceuticals are without problems then one is basing such a belief on a lack of understanding of the complexities of acne drugs.
The Problems with Pharmaceuticals
The most common treatment for acne is the use of antibiotics. These are used in significantly larger quantities than an herbal acne treatment. Unfortunately, not all antibiotics are successful and a bit of trial and error must be employed. Sometimes this can lead to the development of a high level of tolerance towards antibiotics which can make the successful employment of them more difficult.
There have been a great many pharmaceutical treatments for acne that have been discovered to possess a number of problems. (These problems are far more serious than anything an herbal acne treatment could cause). Probably the most egregious of all the acne treatments has been the very controversial drug known as accutane. Accutane is essentially a powerful Vitamin A based medicine that serves to close the pores on the body and, hence, pores can not get clogged if they can not open.
Accutane, however, has been known to come with a host of serious problems including major birth defects liver damage (this is why weekly blood tests are required when taking the drug) and, in some cases, the drug has led to mental instability that has resulted in suicides. This is clearly an outrageous risk to take to cure acne and such risks are a major reason why people look for an alternative to the dangers of pharmaceutical care.
Trying the Herbal Method
This is not to say that all forms of herbal acne treatment are without problems or that all of them are even effective. It is important, however, to point out that not all traditional forms of pharmaceutical medicines are necessarily beneficial. After all, does accutane sound like a product you'd give to a child? So, do not discount the value of herbal medicine as it can provide a number of benefits minus a number or risks.
