Wind Power - Generating Electricity In Rural Communities
Wind power has been used for many years to power national electricity grids across the country. But did you know that wind power has been generating electricity for rural communities for even longer? Electricity generated by the wind is harnessed by large windmill type structures called turbines. These turbines then funnel that energy into converters which transform it into electricity. This electricity is then funneled into generators and disbursed into homes as needed. What an amazing process!
Protecting Our Earth
The greatest thing about using wind power to generate electricity for communities, is the fact that it requires no burning of fossil fuels. No natural resources are depleted when wind energy is used. This is good news for the earth, which is in very real danger of having her natural resources depleted within the next 150 years.
While fringe groups are always touting the importance of finding renewable sources of energy to help save our earth, most of them often overlook one of our most viable sources of renewable energy - the wind. Wind power is free, it is constant, and it is an extremely powerful method of creating electricity for homes and communities at large.
Viability Of Using Wind Power
It is unfortunate that wind power has not been looked into more seriously as a viable method for replacing our current use of fossil fuels to create electricity. As the wind is absolutely free, it would seem that wind power would be one of the first places people would look when attempting to find a renewable source of energy.
One of the reasons that wind power is not as wide spread as it could be, is the fact that the wind does not blow at constant speeds throughout the entire country. What this means for those wanting to put up wind turbines, is that they have to be absolutely certain that the area they place the turbines in actually gets enough wind velocity to create the wind power necessary to create electricity.
Another deterrent from using wind power nationwide, is the cost to build the number of wind turbines needed to power the entire country. Although individually the turbines end up paying for themselves in the end, the initial cost to build enough to supply the entire nation with wind power electricity is staggering.
If we could divert some of the current funds that are being used to find alternative methods of powering our country into the development of wind power energy centers, we could decrease the cost of electricity in every home. Initially, energy would not be able to be given away, due to the need to pay for the cost of the equipment. But eventually, it would be viable that every home could receive free electricity generated from wind power.
