While out in the woods searching for game, many carry a hunters backpack to provide the necessities of being in the wilderness for a day or longer. While most hunters will only spend the day on the hunt, returning to a camp for the evening, there are still some things they may want to have with them. Depending on the game being hunted as well as the environment in which the hunt occurs, the size and style of the hiking backpack will need to match its use.
While many in the woods prefer their hiking backpack to offer camouflage from the animals, often duplicating the design of their clothing, there are also those who prefer a hiking backpack in blaze orange. This color is often used by hunters to give a clear signal to other hunters in the area that the large creature moving through the brush is a human to help prevent accidental shootings. Regardless of the color, the pack should fit between the shoulders of the hunter to prevent a wise animal from seeing the protrusion and recognizing it as an unfamiliar, potential dangerous, sight.
Typically, a hiking backpack is designed to carry a small amount of food with space for a water bottle, usually attached to the outside for easy access. Additional space may be wanted for first aid supplies as well as a spare pair of socks, just in case they step in water while in the woods. Having certain items in the hiking backpack will prevent the need to return to their camp in the event of an accident.
