The Importance and Relationship of Plastic Surgery and Skin Care

There is a relationship between plastic surgery and skin care, one that needs to be taken very seriously if you are considering having a cosmetic procedure yourself. There are basically two different types of plastic surgery that are available: reconstructive plastic surgery and cosmetic plastic surgery.

The reconstructive plastic surgery is used to correct defects on the face or body, for instance to fix cleft lips and traumatic injuries such as from dog bites or burns. Then there is the more optional plastic surgery which is called cosmetic, and these work to alter a part of the body that the person is not satisfied with. If they would like smaller breasts for instance they will have breast augmentation, and if they would like smaller breasts they will have a breast reduction procedure.

Plastic Surgery and Skin Care

When it comes to plastic surgery and skin care there are a few things in particular that you need to know. After the surgery, you are going to have the site of incision which will need to be properly taken care of, and this is the most major issue of plastic surgery and skin care. You will need to take care of the incision as it heals and make sure that there are no symptoms of infection.

Your doctor will have used either stitches or staples and possibly even tape strips to close the incision, and there will be different instructions given to you in terms of care depending on the method they went with. For proper plastic surgery and skin care, it is important that you do not wash the area for at least 24 hours. This is because the doctor will have applied an antibacterial agent to the skin and this will help reduce the chances of infection, so you will not want to rinse it off.

You should also change the dressing if any as your health professional recommends, whether that be once a day or once a week. You should never scrub or rub at the incisions, and if scabbing appears never try to pick it off. You should try not to expose the incisions to sunlight, at least not right away, and only take a bath if you can make sure to keep the incision dry.

Cosmetic surgery skin care is a major issue and one that you should discuss with your doctor before they are willing to perform the surgery on you. Remember that cosmetic surgery is something that you should never rush into and you should only go through with it if you are absolutely positive that it is what you want to do.
