Breed Promotion

With the exception of 4-H dog shows and local fun shows most dog shows are held with one purpose, to promote and reward dogs exhibiting the best characteristics of a breed. Dog breeders and owners take their dogs to compete at these shows knowing that an elevated standing in the dog show results will increase their dog's value. A dog with a strong show record is a dog whose pups will be sought out by future dog owners. Breed associations award points based on the dog show results after each dog show, as a dog collects points it is allowed to compete in bigger, more exclusive dog shows. Dogs who compete to be recognized as the besting their breed are expected to have exemplary manners, a clean perfectly groomed coat, and strong obedience skills before they ever step onto the show grounds. Competitors at these shows take their dogs, and the dog show results, very seriously.
