The Truth About Senior Citizen Homes

In the last few years there has been a lot of stories in the media about seniors being abused and neglected in senior citizen homes. Many law firms in the country have seized on this pattern to try and cash in by convincing the public that senior citizen homes are out to harm our seniors and that suing is the only answer.

The fact is that senior citizen homes are much safer now than they have ever been and while it is not a proud part of their history it is true that abuse and neglect does happen in some senior citizen homes. But the media is much more prolific now and when 24 hour news channels need something to fill their time they will take any story and expand it out to its most detailed proportion.

This is a good thing because maybe now families that drop off their elderly at senior citizen homes and then forget about them may start to pay a little more attention to their older loved ones and try to keep them safe. But it can be a bad thing too because it starts a mania that many senior citizen homes do not deserve.

The reputation of the senior citizen homes in the United States is a bad one because the horror stories are so terrible that people cannot believe that humans would treat other more helpless human beings that way. But many of the senior citizen homes in the United States are doing wonderful work and they are taking care of our elderly at a time when the costs of medical procedures and medications are going up and incomes are headed down.

It is not easy to run a senior citizen home when you have to rely mostly on insurance companies for their payments and it can get difficult to supply quality care when costs are rising but insurance payments are not. This is the crisis that our senior citizen homes are facing and they are trying their best to stay alive.

What You Can Do

In the case of the senior citizen homes in the United States it becomes a matter of how much your family can afford along with insurance. Unfortunately in this country it is true that money buys the best care and for the best care facilities in the United States insurance money alone will not pay the bills.

If you want to make sure your elderly family members truly get the best care then it will cost you and it will not be cheap. This is a sad reality created by our medical system that will not get better any time soon and appears to be getting worse by the day. It is a very bleak picture for people that have relied on the system that has been in place for years.

Unfortunately our senior care facilities are not what they once were and while some can be guilty of neglect others are put in a situation where they must choose between the services they provide because of cost concerns. If something is not done then it will get worse and for now what you can do is express your concerns to your congress representative and make sure you keep an eye on your loved ones wherever they are.
