Extreme Sports Competitions
Extreme sports are sports that have a element of height, speed, and danger. The word extreme makes it sound more dangerous no matter how mellow the sport is. As in all sports competitions are made up combining extreme sports to test the abilities and the skills of the athlete. These competitions will push even the most in shape person over the age because the extreme sports athlete is one that most use balance, strength, agility, and their common sense to get past some of the obstacles the organizers will put in their way. They have to overcome the fear of death and injury to be successful and to win these competitions.
One of these competitions is the X games. Like their Olympic counterpart there is a summer and a winter competition. Motocross, skateboarding, and trick bike riding is judged to award the winners bronze, silver and gold stars. The summer X games will be held in Los Angeles until 2009 and the winter games will be held in Aspen, Colorado until 2010. Sometimes the X games hold an X fest. These festival features bands that are associated with extreme sports. The contestants come to sign autographs for their fans and sports venders are there to hawk their product.
The world has embraced extreme sports as Australia is hosting their own version of X games called Planet X. Planet X is organized in primarily in the same way as the X games, but there are some differences. Trick sky diving and other aerial events are hosted along the traditional extreme sports of surfing, snowboarding, and speed boat racing. The Aussies like to one up their American counterparts by adding more speed, height, and danger into the sports. Planet X also allows more international competition that cannot compete in the X games.
Survivor shows like the Great Race and Primal Quest have displayed extreme sports as part of the competition. Not only does the contestant have survived in a harsh environment with little food. They have to compete in extreme competition that is wrought with danger and excitement. The lack of proper nutrition and strength gives these survivals show competitions a more dangerous look that draws a lot of the younger audiences. With both extreme sports and reality show mixed, the producers are sure to bring in a broader viewing from all different demographics.
The promotion of extreme sports as competitions has broadened the audience in both television audiences and in person. The fan base is so big that sporting good companies and clothing lines have devoted entire lines of products to promote extreme sports. The companies use the word extreme to say that their product breaks away from traditional sports and has cutting edge taste or performance. The extreme sports industry has become that, an industry. They are taking the sporting share of programming by storm and adding a little danger and excitement to otherwise mundane sports. The sports are exciting to watch and it makes one wonder, are you watching for the excitement or are you waiting for someone to crash.
