Scary, Creative Yard Decorations
What would Halloween be without good Halloween yard decorations? A scary yard is the first thing that children will encounter when trick or treating and it's all part of the fun. If you think it's only Christmas that people get creative and competitive with yard decorations then think again.
There are plenty of Halloween yard decorations that you can buy for the occasion. You can also make your own Halloween yard decorations or use a mixture of both. There are some yard decorations that are very easy to make, and most importantly, they are really cheap.
Sheet Ghosts
Making ghosts out of sheets is easy and one of the most inexpensive Halloween yard decorations that you can make. All you need is a ball; a few two by fours and of course a sheet. Make a T shape or cross with the two by fours and place them at appropriate places in your yard. Now duct tape the ball to the top of the T to create the head. Drape the sheet over and you have a ghost. Use nails or a staple gun to keep the sheet in place on the wood. Add details like eyes and mouth with paint or construction paper if you want to use your sheets again.
Giant Spiders
You can make giant spiders are part of your Halloween yard decorations with newspaper, cardboard and black garbage bags. Wad up newspaper so that you have two large balls, one should be smaller than the other. One is going to be the head and the other the body. Put the bigger ball into the bottom of a large black garbage bag and gather the plastic bag closed around the ball and tie it with string.
Now place the second ball inside and do the same thing. Cut the excess plastic bag and you have the body. For the legs cut eight pieces of cardboard into long strips. Now use garbage bag strips that are longer and wider than the cardboard. Wrap the cardboard with the plastic and tape it into place with cellophane tape. Stick the legs onto the body of the spider and make the face out of construction paper.
You can add store bought gravestones to your Halloween yard decorations to make a super spooky yard. If you want to go to the expense of buying a fog machine for authenticity then go ahead. You could use dry ice and water but remember it will take a lot of dry ice and you will have to keep adding water for the fog effect.
