Finding Best HDTV Will Take Some Research

When people go looking for a high definition television they want to buy the best HDTV they can get for their money. However, some of the more expensive units may not seem like the best HDTV you can get if your signal input is still in analog mode. There are three components to watching high definition and the television is only one. The broadcast must be in digital format at its origin and the signal received by the television must also be digital.

Even the best HDTV will not show a lot of improvement if the signal is being input in analog, primarily with an antenna receiving free distribution of the signals pulled out of the air. Typically, cable and satellite television programming is in digital and is converted to analog if the consumer does not have a high definition television. By combining the three components, the viewer can watch the best HDTV programs available.

Many local stations broadcast in digital at least part of the day, typically in the evening and having the best HDTV set available will show an instant improvement when connected to a digital antenna. However, with a digital signal coming into the house and going to an analog television a converter may be necessary to view some of the programming.

Set Top Converters Enhance Viewing Pleasure

For those with the best HDTV programming, but reluctant to buy a new high definition television, the cable or satellite company can supply a converter to allow the programs to be watched on the older technology. Since most digital programming is in a 13:9 aspect ratio and analog televisions are in the old 4:3 aspect ratio, some of the programs may appear with a black bar on the top and bottom of the screen.

When movies, shot for viewing on widescreen theater screens were shown on regular televisions, broadcaster would send the signal as it was made and technology in the television would adjust the ratio to fit the screen. Sometimes the best HDTV movies could not be adjust for a 4:30 ratio and the movie would show in what was termed letterbox, with the dark bars on the top and bottom.

Since the signal sent out by broadcasters and transferred by cable and satellite providers is standard, enjoying the best HDTV picture possible will hinge on the choice of television. Many manufacturers produce quality products, but the sound system include in the set as well as how easy it is to set up and choice will be mart of the decision making process.
