Growing cactus is really easy for anyone, no matter what your level of gardening expertise. They can grow in a hot and dry place and need less maintenance and monitoring than other kinds of plants. Cacti also offer a wide variety of shapes, form and color. Cacti are usually grown in a sunny, well drained area. They make excellent indoor plants, while other varieties may be grown outside where they can grow very big.

The first step to successfully growing a cactus plant is to purchase one that is already in good health. Do not buy any plant that has damaged spines, that has lopsided or uneven growth or any obvious signs of bruising. You should avoid a plant that has put on new, spindly growth during its time in the store. Purchase cacti from a greenhouse where it has grown.
Bringing Cacti Indoors
Many types of cactus may be grown as houseplants, each different in color, size, shape, and flowering habit. Among the most popular types of indoor cactus are the old man, star cactus, golden barrel, bunny ears, bishop's cap, rat-tail, Turk's cap, and pincushion.
Most cacti plants are purchased at garden stores, plant shops, florists, and grocery are grown alike. They all have one thing in common; they all prefer growing space with plenty of sunlight. The main trick in growing cactus is proper watering. Over watering may kill the plant during winter. Water a small amount to moisten the soil area around the roots when watering the plants.
