So Many Options With The Laptop Printer

When laptops first came out the public was dazzled into thinking that the only printer that would work with your laptop is a specially designed laptop printer. Aside from the convenience factor with these older laptop printers there really was nothing special about them. They were small, portable, they could fold up, they could print in a small space, and they fit in a laptop carrying case.

To try and use a standard parallel printer on a laptop computer was quite a pain because with parallel printers not only did you have to shut both the laptop and printer down, hook them up, and turn them back on for them to work but you also needed to load the drivers on the laptop to work with the printer. That was unless you were hooking the laptop up to a network and then it could just use the network printer. But advances in printing technology, and USB ports, have completely changed the idea of the laptop printer.

There have been two major changes in printing technology that have really changed the face of the laptop printer for good. The first is the USB port. USB makes connecting devices extremely easy as it stands for Universal Serial Bus with universal being the main word.

Any laptop can connect to any printer or any laptop printer in seconds and be fully operational thanks to the USB port and the universal compatibility of Windows XP with its driver compatibility with pretty much any printer out there. Now you can hook up your laptop to any printer around that has a USB port and it should work just fine. Just turn them both off, hook them up, and turn on the printer and then the laptop. Sounds like old parallel right? Not exactly. You don't need any drivers to make this connection work and that makes everything so easy.

Smaller And Smaller

The other revolution in the laptop printer is the change in size of the units. They used to be small but now that are calling them wallet size and that is not far off. This new generation of laptop printer is very small and some of them even fold to smaller sizes for easy travel. It is amazing how much technology has advanced and what the new ideas can offer. Remember too that all of these very small printers easily connect to any laptop through USB and that makes everything even easier.

Something else that is starting to take hold among business travelers is portable laser printers. Laser printers are not really made to be portable but they are making them so small now that people are finding a way to make them portable. There is so much to consider including the printer being damaged in travel and what to do about the drum once it has been opened but if you can figure that out then you have portable laser printing.
