Why You Should Learn Spanish Words
You are driving down the road minding your own business when suddenly a car crosses the intersection and slams into you. After you gather yourself and check to make sure no bones are broken you bolt out of your car to see exactly what part of "stop" the other driver did not understand. The other driver gets out of their car and starts waving their hand at you and screaming something in Spanish.
Now you start to get frustrated because they don't speak "your" language. But what if they are right? What if it was you that crossed the intersection incorrectly? Unless you learn Spanish words you will never know because this person, like a growing number of people in the United States, only speak Spanish and that is going to cause you problems.
It may seem a bit extreme to use an example like the one above and then say that we are all going to have to learn Spanish words just to be able to get the details of an accident accurately to the police but as our society changes this is not very far from the truth. Soon we are all going to need to learn Spanish words as there is an increasing population in the United States that only speaks Spanish and there is an entire business and governmental culture growing up around them that is also Spanish speaking.
Soon, if you want to do business in the United States, you will have to learn Spanish words. Not too far from that time is the time when just to communicate with more than half of the American population you will need to learn Spanish words. Our society is changing and you can either change with it or become another casualty to the American idea that people have to learn "our" language to live here. More and more it is difficult to tell what "our" language really is.
It Is In Every Part of Our Society
Narrow minded people will assume that you will only need to learn Spanish words if you plan on interacting with immigrant farm workers or low paid factory workers. This, of course, is not true. Take for example the expansion of the Spanish speaking network Telemundo. It is based in New York City and is slowly becoming very popular all over the country. Does that mean we will have to learn Spanish words just to watch television? Hardly so, but if you want to watch Telemundo original programming you will certainly have to learn Spanish words or forget it.
Things are changing and you can change with them or get left behind. It isn't essential that everyone learn how to speak complete Spanish but it will definitely be advantageous to learn Spanish words in the near future.
