French culture rituals have roots in the long and storied French history. For example, up until the beginning of the 20th century one of the more stable French culture rituals was that the officially sanctioned state religion of France was Roman Catholicism. However as people from the rural areas, who were the ones most stringently holding to the French culture ritual of practicing the Roman Catholic religion, began moving into the cities especially Paris the countryside began to lose its population base and soon the Christian movement began to stall and stop all together in France. This has been attributed to the decline in the moral sense in all of France and has helped France earn a hedonistic reputation.
One of the more famous French culture rituals is that of the love of art within all of France and all throughout French culture. This French culture ritual is so revered by all of the French citizens that they went about building the Louvre in 1793 and it is one of the largest, and most famous, art museums in all of the world. The Louvre is not only home to almost all of the significant art created by French artists down through history but it is also home to the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci and the classical Greek statue named the Venus De Milo. Art is a large part of the French culture ritual and the Louvre is their center of the art world.
Keeping Up Appearances
The French are well known for their strong sense of nationalistic pride and they are also well known for defending that pride at any cost. They put a great deal of their identity into Paris being a world center for culture and art and their strong defense of the notion that Paris is a center of culture for the world has earned the French the reputation for being arrogant. Many French will gladly deal with a reputation of being snobs and for being arrogant as long as they feel they have the high culture to back that attitude up.
The French are also known throughout the sporting world for their very famous Tour De France cycling race that happens annually. The Tour De France is considered one of the cycling races of the year and it covers almost all of the perimeter of France over hundreds of miles of rugged terrain. However in recent years the cloud of possible drug enhanced Tour De France champions is starting to bring a sense of shame to an otherwise very proud country.
