Everything You Need To Know About The National College Of Naturopathic Medicine

The National College of Naturopathic Medicine, now called the National College of Natural Medicine, is the best place for doctors who want to be approved to practice naturopathic medicine. The National College of Naturopathic Medicine is located in Portland, Oregon.

The History

The National College of Naturopathic Medicine started accepting students in 1956, making it the oldest school of naturopathic medicine in the United States. The National College of Naturopathic Medicine moved to its current location in Portland in the 1970's, at the time the school was located on Market Street, a location they outgrew, forcing them to move to Ross Island, its current location.

The National College of Naturopathic Medicine has been divided into two separate schools. The first division is called the School of Naturopathic Medicine. After four years of education, students emerge from this school with a doctor's degree in naturopathic medicine. This degree means that the student can practice naturopathic healing techniques anywhere in the world.

The National College of Naturopathic Medicine has carefully designed their schedule to provide their student's with a maximum amount of education in the four years they are enrolled in the program. In the first year, students can expect to learn the body functions, and naturopathic theory as well as philosophy and therapeutics. During their second year of studies, students can plan on studying diseases, therapeutic manipulation, homeopathic medical sequences, botanical medicine and clinical nutrition. During their third year, students will get their first taste of clinical work, and during the fourth year they can expect to learn practical clinic training. Since the course load is heavy, many students take an additional year to complete their studies.

Classical Chinese Medicine School

For students who aren't interested in becoming doctors of naturopathic medicine, the National College of Naturopathic Medicine encourages them to enroll in their Classical Chinese Medicine School. After spending four years studying classical Chinese medicine, graduates are awarded a Masters of Science degree in Oriental Medicine. This degree allows them to use acupuncture to treat patients in the state of Oregon. By the end of their schooling students will be able to work with all types of health care practitioners, diagnose patients and practice classical Chinese remedies.

The Helfgott Research Institute

One of the things that sets the National College of Naturopathic Medicine apart from other naturopathic schools of medicine is the Helfgott Research Institute. The Helfgott Research Institute is a non-profit institute that was established in June 2003. The mission of the Helfgott Research Institute is to research every aspect of natural medicine.
