The Seamier Side Of The Unregulated Pet Food Industry

There is urgent need to regulate the pet food industry to ensure that foods that we feed our pets are not going to harm their health and will only contain ingredients that even humans could consume, and that such food is not the result of any experimentation on animals. All too often, feeding your pet with products from the pet food industry can lead to sickness in your pet which is most noticeable in the form of it vomiting and also feeling excessively thirsty.

Excessive Zinc

There are also enough indications that point to the less than satisfactory side of the pet food industry and which is best seen in the case of some dog foods that have been known to contain more zinc than is good for your pet's health though the makers of such dog foods won't own up or take responsibility for these irregularities. It only goes to show how unregulated is the pet food industry in North America and the only regulation that occurs in America and in Canada is to check on the food labels and name as well as address of the manufacturers as too weight of the food.

Another less than satisfactory side to the pet food industry is the belief that many of the pet food manufacturers have been using rendered animals as source for proteins in their pet foods, and far from being an isolated instance; it was found that in Ontario it was a regular practice among many veterinarian clinics.

The seriousness of the problem cannot be overemphasized and it can be seen from facts such as when Los Angeles sends two hundred tons of euthanized dogs and cats to the West Coast Rendering in a single month. What's worse, is the fact that grains that are being used in dry pet foods are actually materials that are not fit for human consumption and include things such as hulls, broken grains and even chaff as well as joints, and these can further be contaminated with sand, straw, dirt as well as weed seeds.

It is hardly surprising then that because of the unregulated nature of the pet food industry, that every so often pet food recalls take place which makes one wonder how many pets have fallen ill because of contaminated pet foods.

All these worrying aspects with regard to the pet food industry requires that there should be immediate regulation of this industry before something worse happens and which would result in adversely affecting our pets simply because timely action was not taken.
