Using Solar Power Cells To Your Advantage
Solar power cells are everywhere if you look closely enough. They are not revolutionary and have been around for quite some time. It's only now that they are becoming something of a sensation, heralded as the answer to global warming and many of our energy woes.
You probably have had a calculator that was powered by solar power cells and have had one for some time. It's never needed a battery and just keeps working; in fact it doesn't even have a button to turn it off. That is very simply what solar power cells are all about.
What Do They Do?
Solar power cells very simply collect sunlight and convert it into electricity. This electricity can then be used to power appliances, heat water and some people one-day dream of driving solar powered cars. If it's that simple why are we not all using this free energy?
You cannot simply put solar power cells on your rooftop to harness the energy of the sun. Not all houses are equipped for the use of solar energy. A roof has to be built at a certain angle and incline before solar power can be installed on that particular house. If the house is facing the wrong direction then it will also be unable to use solar power.
Other problems crop up as well. Buildings and trees that shade the house will prevent the solar power cells from working properly. You need to choose carefully how many solar power cells are used so that you can get enough electricity to power your house.
In fact you may not be able to completely convert to this type of energy. Nevertheless supplementing traditional electricity with solar power can do wonders towards reducing energy bills and helping the environment.
Solving Problems
For overcast days you will need to have batteries to power your system if you want to rely completely on solar energy. This means that you will have to buy special batteries that will be charged by solar power during the day and provide you with electricity during the night and on the days when the weather is not so great.
At the moment using solar power cells is a little complicated and not everyone is willing to completely convert to this type of power. It is however proving to be a very safe and reliable source of energy. Hopefully there will be new advances soon that will improve the system.
