Look the Part with Military Style Sunglasses

For some professions, sunglasses are required components of the work uniform. While sunglasses can be stylish, they can also be functional, and their functions go far beyond mere sunlight protection. The eyes are fragile organs; they can be damaged by UV rays, but they can also be cut, punctured and burned. In high-risk professions such as the military, sunglasses provide a sense of comfort and ultimate protection, especially military style sunglasses. But for those not in the military, military style sunglasses can still be desirable. The feeling of power, intensity, courage and strength that surrounds the military, especially Special Forces, is represented by these sunglasses, and many individuals purchase replica military eyewear to play the part.

Military style sunglasses are usually standard issue for military personnel. While they differ based on branch and assignment (those issued for the Navy Seals are a bit different than those issued for Army pilots), there are a few qualities that are universal across the armed forces. Military style sunglasses always offer UV protection and are crafted using ballistic polycarbonate lenses. These lenses are shatterproof and offer high-impact protection; bullet casings and shrapnel can blind a person, but with these lenses, the eyes are protected from flying debris. Military style sunglasses are also built to be comfortable; the nosepieces and earpieces are padded, and the frames, usually black, are lightweight. While performing such difficult, stressful jobs, military personnel cannot be distracted by their sunglasses.

Military style sunglasses can also come as goggles. Goggles offer even more protection for the wearer; they wrap securely around the head and are often used in conjunction with helmets, night-vision optics and ear protection pieces. They protect military personnel from bullets and debris but also from chemicals, gases, fire and other explosive situations. Even these military style sunglasses are popular outside of the armed forces; they are often used during paintball and other role-playing activities, although they are not normally worn for fashion.

Still, military style sunglasses, while functional, can also be sold as novelty items. While mock military sunglasses still fulfill certain government standards, most do not. They look the part, but they do not play the part. However, this helps to reduce the price for those individuals simply looking for the style, not the function. Impact protection and shatterproof lenses are far more expensive than normal reflective lenses, and non-polycarbonate glass can be substituted to make the sunglasses more affordable for those looking to feel a little tougher, but not actually prove that toughness.
