What If Diet Is The Cause Of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder?

Your child can't seem to sit still, he can't concentrate on anything, he's a monster at school and at home, and he just won't listen to anything you or any other authority figure says. What is wrong with him? Many parents are asking themselves the same question. They rush their child to the doctor only to find that their child has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. This disorder is marked by jitteriness, an inability to concentrate, acting out and a number of other symptoms. This disorder was only recently discovered yet a growing number of children are on medication for it. Do we need to be drugging our children? What if the cause of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder lies in the foods and drinks they are consuming? It's time for a little experiment.

Monitoring Your Child's Diet

If your child is exhibiting the symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, try monitoring what your child eats. Teach your child to eat healthy fruits and vegetables, whole grains and good protein sources. Too many foods tailored for children are laden with fats, sugars and preservatives. Just walk down your local breakfast cereal aisle and you'll see numerous boxes with cartoon characters on them that are tailored and marketed just for kids. They even have little toys inside. Yet all of these cereals are filled with sugar and other junk. It's no wonder your kid can't sit still or concentrate. However, it's not just kids.

Our Diets Need Fixing

Children are not the only ones being diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is another problem facing our society. It just may be in the foods we're eating. The only way to combat this problem is to focus on eating healthy. While at home, have your family choose healthy foods. Cook nutritious breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Also, have your kids, and your spouse, take a lunch with them to school or work. However, that may be easier said than done.

School Food

It's a problem when kids are able to choose fattening, sugar laden foods at school. Any kid, if faced with a salad or a Honey Bun, is going to choose the Honey Bun. It's just how kids are wired. They know they can't have the sugar laden food so they want it even more. Then they get home and they're a monster. They are automatically diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, but it could just be the foods they're eating.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder may be a real disorder, but it's probable that the foods our children are eating are increasing the diagnosis of this disorder. It's only fair to your children to teach them how to eat healthy foods instead of rushing to the doctor to have him or her put on some kind of medication to calm him or her down.
