You Will Get Neck Injuries From Wakeboarding

When I was first asked to write about neck injuries from wakeboarding my initial response was to just say that yes you will get neck injuries from wakeboarding. But while neck injuries from wakeboarding may seem inevitable to some, there are some precautions you can take that will lower your chances of getting a neck injury from wakeboarding and potentially causing yourself a life time of serious injuries.

The most important thing to remember from all of this is that if you do not feel like you really know how to prevent neck injuries from wakeboarding then there is no shame in taking lessons to learn how. Your pride will heal a lot faster than a broken neck.

The first way to prevent neck injuries from wakeboarding is to not go wakeboarding. But since that is probably not an option then we move on to the next idea which is hitting the water correctly. Many of the neck injuries from wakeboarding come from hitting the water the wrong way when you start to lose control of your ride. Consult a professional for hands on lessons about the correct way to fall in all circumstances when you are wakeboarding because knowledge like that can go a long way to saving your neck in the future.

Pay Attention!

Believe it or not another source for neck injuries from wakeboarding is show offs that are not paying attention. When you are wakeboarding you are moving at top speeds and that requires all of your balance and focus to make sure you do not get injured. You can spend time waving to the girls on the beach when your ride is over and you are in the boat. Until then you need to keep your focus on your board and on your ride so that you don't spill or that you do not run into something like a tree branch or another boat.

Most of the injuries you get in wakeboard can be prevented by simply knowing what you are doing and paying attention. If you are a novice at wakeboarding then trying to do complicated tricks while going 40 miles an hour is a bad idea. Watch what you are doing and know your limitations and there is a very good chance that you will enjoy yourself out there on the water without any permanent pain to remind yourself of how careless you were while you were wakeboarding.
