Create a new email address

It is easier to create a new email address than ever before, and it seems like every week I see one of my friends doing it. I don't know how they manage it. Whenever I get a new email address, it is kind of a hassle. You see, I don't keep very good track of my contacts. As a result, it takes me something like six months to figure out everyone I need to e-mail and get a message to them. Sometimes, I have permanently lost friends because of new email addresses. I haven't known their e-mail so, when later they have e-mailed my old address, I haven't been there to get the message.

When I told one of my friends about this problem, he paradoxically recommended that I get a new email account. I was a little bit surprised, and I asked him his reasons. He told me that I could really benefit from a new e-mail address. You see, many Web e-mail domains have pretty sophisticated programs to help you keep track of all your information. Not only do they have contact books (which I never use) but they also keep track of every e-mail you send and receive and the address of the person sending or receiving it. That means that, without sorting through all your e-mails, you have a list of every e-mail address you use. I know that Gmail does this, and I have heard that many other services do it as well.

He finally managed to talk me into getting a new email address. I had been a little bits hesitant, but he assured me that Gmail was quite easy to use. I finally gave in and tried it out. I decided to not cancel my old e-mail account. I would keep both that and my new email address for at least six or eight months, switching between them and slowly moving people over to the new account. I have to say that he was right

- my new email address really does work better than my old one did. It is easier than ever before to send and receive e-mails, and I have a better idea of all the addresses I need to use on a daily basis. Nonetheless, it is still a bit of a hassle because of my bad habits. I need to find a better way to keep track of my contacts!
