The Look and Feel of Real Cherry Baby Furniture

Sometimes certain people need practical advice to get through life. I remember going through a furniture store with a friend of mine years ago and seeing a full line of cherry baby furniture. His wife was pregnant at the time so he wanted to just take a quick look at the furniture and get an idea of the pricing and different aspects of it.

He recognized the oak furniture and even the ash but when he came to the cherry baby furniture he was stumped. He asked me what type of wood the beautiful furniture was made from and I told him it was cherry baby furniture. In all honesty he took a sniff of one of the dressers and announced that it couldn't be cherry baby furniture because it smells like oak.

I didn't have the heart to tell him that the oak, ash, and cherry baby furniture all smell the same and it isn't the smell that separates them but I let him dream for a little while. After looking at the tag he realized it was cherry baby furniture and right away he started to notice the differences between cherry and the other woods.

First of all cherry baby furniture indicates the wood used and not the color of the finish. A piece of cherry baby furniture does not necessarily have to be red; they are made into all sorts of colors. But why do some manufacturers prefer to work with cherry over other woods? Cherry is in some ways a more sturdy wood to work with than the other woods.

Craftsmen like cherry because it is a bit easier to cut and shape and when the piece of cherry baby furniture is done it tends to be a little more durable than any other the other woods. The density of cherry wood makes for some very sturdy, and slightly heavier, cherry baby furniture that can last for a very long time and can be handed down from generation to generation.

A Smooth Finish

Cherry wood also has the ability to be sanded down to a very smooth and consistent surface that looks absolutely beautiful when the finishing coats are put on it. In the end there is nothing quite like the look and feel of well made cherry baby furniture. It really does take a skilled craftsman to turn cherry into furniture but when it is done there is no furniture like it.

I remember that my friend did get a cherry wood high chair and he asked me one time how you can prove that something is made of cherry wood versus oak or any other kind of wood. I told him to burn it and if it smells like cherry then you have cherry wood. I'm not sure his wife appreciated that little bit of advice at all.
